7 Secrets to Building Remodeling
Building remodeling generates much pressure, stress, and time, that every tip or shortcut would be a big help to keep the project running smoothly and properly.
1. Review the contract with your contractor.
You should do this before anything else. You need to know the details of the remodeling, that everyone agrees to the work to be done, and how long the project will take. The contract should contain every detail you want like materials to use and avoid.
2. Communicate and expect high.
Know the time and days the job will be conducted. You need to know these, especially if you are in the house during remodeling. You wouldn’t want to be in the shower while the electrician or other workers get there.
3. Cover your bases.
Check the workers’ references and get their personal information. This will be useful if you need to look for them or if they steal from you, since you will not always be home while they work on your house.
4. Store materials in a safe place.
If the building remodeling needs many large materials, you will need to store them from rain, snow, heat, and theft. Lost or damaged materials will be costly to replace.
5. Maintain a clean workspace.
If you are going to work with plaster, set up a screen of plastic sheets around furniture or over doorways to prevent the dust from flying around and settling everywhere. Show the workers where they can wash their brushes and materials, and tell them which rooms you do not want them to be in.
6. Mark the boundaries and be considerate.
Besides showing the workers the places that are restricted to them, let them know their other limits, too, like telephone use, parking, and garbage disposal. Also, be considerate of the workers. After all their work, it would be nice if you offered them drinks and snacks and a place to rest.
7. Plan everything beforehand.
Do not remodel your house all at once. Leave a place for you to stay in as usual. Also, check the materials and fixtures before having them installed. Although the chances of delays is always high, careful planning will prevent to-long delays.
Building remodeling is not guaranteed to be easy and stress-free. But if you do not let the pressure build up and control you, the whole project shouldn’t be much of a problem. You will just have to plan carefully and practice patience.
